Granite Processing: Types of finishes

Polished Finish

Polished granite boasts a sleek, glass-like surface with a glossy sheen and low porosity, making it best suited for indoor applications due to its slippery texture.

Honed Finish

Honed granite showcases a smooth, matte appearance with a refined finish, lacking the high shine of polished surfaces. It is suitable for indoor use only.

Brushed Finish

This brushed finish creates a textured, worn-in look on granite, suitable for indoor and outdoor use, but outdoor surfaces should prioritize slip resistance.

Grooved Finish

Ideal for outdoor flooring, this finish features parallel grooves arranged at right angles to traffic flow, commonly used for curb ramps or pedestrian crossings.

Natural Cleft Finish

Characterized by a slightly uneven, tiered appearance, this natural finish is commonly used for both indoor and outdoor walls and facades, particularly for rustic paving stones.

Bush Hammered Finish

Achieved with a specialized stone-working hammer, this finish creates a rugged surface with evenly distributed indentations of 1 to 3 millimeters deep, suitable for outdoor areas.

Bush Hammered and Brushed Finish

Using a multi-pointed tool, this finish produces a rugged surface with scrapes or lengthened indentations, often seen in rustic decor and old building facades.

Sandblasted or Gritted Finish

Similar to the bush hammered finish, sandblasting creates a textured surface ideal for outdoor use due to its rough finish, but not recommended for indoor applications.

Storage and Shipment

After treatment, granite slabs are sorted by finish type and packed accordingly for storage and shipment.
